Rajkot Unique Library
Now, library a call away for Rajkot seniors
For the senior citizens of Rajkot, their choice of reading materials is now only
a phone call away. The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has introduced a
unique free service that ensures that the senior citizens do not have to step
out of their homes to get their favourite books.
The service has been launched under the Vaanche Gujarat project, and eight RMC
employees have come forward to be volunteers. More helpers are required to
ensure the home delivery of books across the city.
RMC Commissioner Dinesh Brahmbhatt said: “Reading forms an important part of
many senior citizens’ lifestyle. Not all are in the shape to step out and go to
a library. This new service is an answer to their requirement.”
The books will be provided from the RMC-run Prabha Devi Library. The senior
citizens can contact volunteers directly on their cellphones, can become
members, and begin placing requests for the books.
